Our core philosophy rests on the principle that "The family is the fundamental building block of society." Guided by this, we strive to advance and modernize society by embedding democratic values and tolerance within the family unit first, ensuring a positive impact on society as a whole.

Our mission

Nujeen Organization seeks to advance society and modernize its structure by empowering its core foundation: the family. We work to promote humanistic and democratic culture through capacity building, safeguarding individual freedoms, and combating all forms of discrimination and marginalization — particularly against women and vulnerable groups. Through field and cultural engagement, we foster family relationships based on dialogue and participation, enhance community peace, and facilitate access to essential and health services for all without discrimination.

Our vision

We aspire to build a democratic and prosperous civil society where all individuals enjoy justice and dignity, and where familial and societal relationships are built on peaceful coexistence, acceptance of diversity, and mutual respect — a society in which the family serves as the primary environment for instilling values of citizenship, peace, and tolerance.

Our strategic objectives

  • Strengthening Democratic Approach & Peacebuilding: Organizing family and societal relationships on principles of pluralism and active participation, while activating peace initiatives and peaceful conflict resolution.
  • Empowerment & Capacity Building: Activating the roles of all family and community members, ensuring their fundamental freedoms, and developing their personal capacities.
  • Awareness & Education: Elevating family awareness and culture, while promoting a spirit of constructive dialogue and mutual understanding across the community.
  • Combating Discrimination & Social Justice: Mitigating the impact of harmful social norms and gender-based discrimination, with a primary focus on supporting women's rights.
  • Supporting Vulnerable Groups: Effectively responding to the needs of marginalized populations, particularly children, persons with disabilities and special needs, orphans, IDPs, and refugees.
  • Promoting Public Health: Enhancing individual and community health levels through awareness campaigns and facilitating non-discriminatory access to comprehensive healthcare services.

Looking ahead — our 2026–2030 strategy

Building on more than two decades of work, Nujeen has set a five-year strategy under the banner "A Cohesive Family · Empowered Youth · A Democratic and Sustainable Society." It carries our founding conviction into a new decade: that strong, protected families — alongside empowered youth and a healthy environment — are the foundation of a just, democratic, and sustainable society.

Our direction for 2026–2030 spans six areas:

  • Stronger institutions — Investing in transparency, digital systems, and the skills of our staff and volunteers, so we can serve communities with the highest standards of efficiency and accountability.
  • Reaching further — Expanding our services across Duhok, Nineveh, and the displacement camps, and opening new community centres in conflict-affected areas — with a focus on reaching those most often left behind, including people with disabilities, children, orphans, and displaced families.
  • Building alliances — Leading civil-society coalitions, including the "The Choice is Yours" coalition of 18 women's organizations, and working within national and international networks to advance women's rights, health, and child protection.
  • Sustainable development, health, and climate — Advancing economic empowerment and livelihoods, sexual and reproductive health and rights, psychosocial support, and — for the first time — environmental and climate initiatives, all aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Empowering youth — Equipping young women and men with future-ready skills, entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities, and creating safe spaces for them to speak, participate, and lead.
  • Advancing rights and reform — Working through advocacy and partnership to strengthen legal protections for fundamental rights and freedoms, and to build a more protective environment for families and individuals.
